Action learning facilitator training for individuals

Learning to learn by doing with and from others who are also learning to learn by doing”
Reg Revans

If you are a professional facilitator, or use facilitation in your work, action learning is a valuable tool to add to your portfolio. Action Learning Associates offers specialist training in action learning facilitation.

Accredited training with a solid track record

Our training is endorsed by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) and participants can gain accreditation by following an ILM approved Professional Development Programme in Action Learning Facilitation. For details of our track record in facilitator training see what our customers say and our customers

The facilitator training process

Full immersion in an action learning set is the best way to understand it. Our facilitator course takes three days so that you can fully understand the process and principles and experience being in and outside the set. With a maximum of six people on each course, everyone gains first hand experience of facilitating an action learning session and receives feedback on their performance. You come away with confidence in the action learning process, ideas about how you can apply action learning and a sound basis to further develop your facilitation skills.

During the training programme we cover:

  • the principles and conventions of action learning
  • setting up new sets
  • the skills of facilitation
  • coping with challenging set members
  • enabling sets to become self facilitating
  • alternative models of action learning
  • evaluation and accreditation.

We provide resource material and handouts for you to reproduce or adapt in your own work. If you choose to register for ILM accreditation you will complete a Reflective Learning Log as a record of your learning and attend a follow up development day to complete the accreditation process (generally three to six months later).

Is it for you?

Participants come from public, voluntary and private sectors. Some employed, others freelance. Many are full-time facilitators, most work in management, learning and development roles. A few are simply intrigued by the buzz of action learning and want to find out if its reputation is deserved. All find useful approaches and techniques to inspire or revive their practice.

We run facilitator courses around four times a year – always non-residential and generally in central London.
